Filtration Sampling Probe by TRACE
the solution for sterile substrate sampling
The filtration probe ESIP is designed to withdraw sterile, cell-free filtrate from fermenters and bioreactors.
The tubular micro-filtration poly-propylene membrane, supported by a stainless steel probe, is positioned inside the reaction vessel.
The filtration probe ESIP is sterilized together with the fermenter/bioreactor. Configured in either 12 mm, 19 mm or 25 mm diameters, the sampling module is installed in the vessel's standard METTLER-TOLEDO (IngoldTM) ports.
Flow rates of up to 1,5 ml/min are feasible; optimising filtration performance and minimizing sample consumption. Sterile cell-free filtrate can be withdrawn intermittently or continuously, manually or automatically from the head of the sampling device, which is outside the bioreactors or fermenters. A low-capacity peristaltic pump is typically used for withdrawal.
Features:

sterile Filtration; no solids > 0.2 m |
| - |
low dead volume |
| - |
increased safety by using a solid membrane |
| - |
succesfully operated in various processes |
Benefits:
| - |
no sample conditioning like centrifugation necessary |
| - |
samples are representative |
| - |
easy handling |
| - |
more safety against infections by bugs |
| - |
safety by using a solid membrane |
| - |
to be used with on-line analyzers ProcessTRACE, MultiTRACE and ProcessMonitor |
| - |
sampling system for on-line HPLC and other analyzers |
| - |
can be used in small bioreactors of approx. 300 ml volume by shortening the length of the membrane from 120 mm to 40 mm. (See our news from 27/12/2025) |
